God Doesn't Live in a Box

There is a deep desire in the unredeemed human heart not to love God, but to control him. The Christian understands that God works in the heart to make a person new and holy. With an unredeemed heart, we think of God in terms something like a good-luck charm. However, God refuses to be locked in with signs and relics; God insists on morality rather than magic.

The Ark of the Covenant

In our churches are many kinds of sacred furnishings: pulpits, altars, and communion tables, for instance. Imagine that the most sacred piece is one you rarely or never see. The ark of the covenant was much like that, hidden from sight most of the time, and only rarely brought out for public viewing. Why was this object so revered? What was its purpose?
